Chris Johnstone makes MMA debut

No Contest Boxing Test Pilot Chris Johnstone is set to make his MMA debut on the country’s leading MMA promotion in Brisbane on March 24. The Muay Thai veteran will take on MMA Star Ben ‘Knuckles’ Mortimer in a catch-weight contest at 79kg. Johnstone is the owner of Brisbane’s premier fight sport retailer, For The Fighter, and after sponsoring some shows was invited by a major promoter to fight on a main card. Johnstone jumped at the opportunity, but only on the condition that he would be matched against the best. Ben Mortimer is a heavy handed wrestler/puncher and the current 77kg WKBF Australian Champion. With his experience in Muay Thai and a brief foray into boxing, Johnstone will now have competed in all 3 major ring sports. Johnstone expressed his will to further test himself on his journey as a full contact martial artist. In preparation for the tough contest, Johnstone has been training 4 days a week at Southside MMA in Brisbane to hone his wrestling and ground game, regularly rolling with bigger, more experienced training partners. He still runs his gym, Muay Thai Mulisha 6 nights a week, keeping his standup game sharp, and guiding the next generation of fighters to shine in the ring. For The Fighter has recently expanded to a new store in Lutwyche, an inner northern suburb of Brisbane, with hopes to be even bigger than the first shop located in Slacks Creek. For The Fighter has fast risen to recognition for its range of premium products and being involved in the sponsorship of promotions and fighters.
